The legend is set in Puglia in the 1400s.
The mother is alone with her children. She has nothing to feed them. She looks in the pantry . She has only flour , a little extra virgin olive oil , salt and a little leftover white wine . The only thing she can do is combine the ingredients and try to knead . A mass comes out that the woman divides into strips and then makes little circles, perhaps to reproduce a hug for the little ones, a sign of her affection and attention. Finally, she lights the wood and puts everything in the oven.
This is how the Apulian taralli were born, even if we know it very well: legends are mixed with a pinch of history and a good dose of suggestions that have only a reference to reality.
